Unstocked is a micro project which examines the general response to Superstorm Sandy which hit New York City in late October 2012. It's a record of the behavior of city residents in the 14th St to 23rd St, 1st Ave to 2nd Ave span of Manhattan. It's documentation of the confluence of three factors that marked the experience of Sandy "“ the pre-storm push to purchase items that would allow New Yorkers to survive the storm, the choices customers made post-storm in the wake of long power outages, and, finally, items which were damaged during the outage and thrown away by grocery store managers.
Designed to be a study of behavior and a survey of the resulting aesthetics, Unstocked was created and constructed at the moment after the majority of public transportation became available in New York City after the storm, during the weekend when power was restored but before shipping and transport was able to resume regularly.
